Job Description

Meta is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join Meta AI’s Responsible AI Team. Individuals in this role are expected to be recognized experts in identified research areas such as any of the following: measuring bias, quantitative social science methods, generative models (in domains such as images, videos, or text), ethics governance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, artificial intelligence ethics. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in producing new science to understand fairness of scaled labeling and ML-supported systems. The ideal candidate will also be a thought-leader in the AI ethics, law, and policy and engage with teams around the company to help develop their own technologies, practices, and processes in the space. Postdoc positions are one year fixed-term positions. Finally, the candidate must have a proven track record of publishing original research work in top tied conferences and journals.There is the opportunity to work on topics on the intersection of Generative AI and Responsible AI.

Postdoctoral Researcher, Responsible AI (PhD) Responsibilities

  • Perform research to advance the science, technology, and understanding of ethical machine learning and machine-learning-supported systems.
  • Design scalable solutions for measuring and mitigating systems at Meta scope.
  • Work towards long-term ambitious research goals, while identifying intermediate milestones.
  • Influence progress of relevant research communities by producing publications.
  • Contribute research that can be applied to Meta product development.
  • Engage with product, legal, and policy teams to help them develop informed approaches to AI ethics.
  • Lead collaborators and joint authors in preparing papers for submission and publication.
  • Produce open source code and data.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the field of Machine Learning, AI, AI Ethics, a Social Science, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Experience in Python.
  • Experience with PyTorch.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building systems based on machine learning, data analysis to measure the fairness of labeling or data-collection systems, and/or deep learning methods.
  • Experience developing generative machine learning systems such as those for synthesizing photos, videos, text, or similar data.
  • Experience working with and producing large data sets for training deep neural networks.
  • Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by fellowships, patents, as well as publications at leading workshops or conferences in Machine Learning (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, IEEE TPAMI), Computer Vision (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV), NLP (ACL, NAACL) or RAI specifically (FaCCT).
  • Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
  • Experience with SQL, JSON.

$116,000/year to $160,000/year + benefits

Please note the national salary range listed in the job posting reflects the new hire salary range across levels and U.S. locations that would be applicable to the position. Final salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s final level and final location. Also, this range represents base salary only and does not include the company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity, or benefits , if applicable.
